What is an AUXOP member?
An AUXOP member is a member of the U.S. Coast
Guard Auxiliary who successfully passed all six of the Operational
Specialty Courses.
What are the Operational Special Cousrses?
The Operational Specialty Courses are: Navigation,
Weather, Search and Rescue, Patrols, Communications and Seamanship.
Is there a student fee for taking an
Operational Specialty Course (OSC)?
There is no cost to members of the Coast Guard Auxiliary to take an
Operational Specialty Course (OSC).
Are all AUXOP members part of the AUXOP
Association?
No. To become a member of the AUXOP Association you must first be an
AUXOP member who resides in the Ninth Coast Guard District (9WR, 9CR or
9ER). Second you must complete and mail the Application for Membership
found on this web site, along with your dues to the Secretary/Treasurer
of the AUXOP Association.
Who can take an OSC?
Any member of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary in good
standing may take an OSC.
How does a member obtain the study materials
for an OSC?
The member may request the study materials for an OSC from his FSO-MA.
How do you successfully complete or pass an OSC?
To complete an OSC you must achieve a passing grade of 70% on the
written test and properly demonstrate the related practical requirements
listed on this web site.
How do you arrange to take a test for an OSC?
When the student feels confident enough to take an OSC test and
demonstrate the practical requirement, he can make an appointment with a
Proctor. The Proctors for the Ninth Coast Guard District can be found on
this web site.
